I'm not making this up...
Today on the way home from school Jackson told me he wanted to have a "Korean War" birthday party...with lots of jets. I've got a little over 2 months to change his mind.

Reading that made me laugh out loud. Korean War party...who wudda thunk...
That is so funny. I think you should do it. It perfectly represents this little stage in his life.
I must be getting old.
I say no to the Korean War theme for the party.
It reminds me - and it's a stretch - of when LeeAnna wanted to get a job in high school so she could leave school for the afternoon. I tore up the first parental permission forms and told her that all too soon she would have to be working and, once she started, she'd always be working after that. She won out when she came home with the second set of papers and an interview at "the bank." A few years later she said that I was right. She wished she had not started working so soon.
So, I really think it's cute and smart of him to be so in tune to the war-time stories, but I also believe that he should be encouraged to fully explore the fantasy of childhood themes that he will never again revisit when he's old enough to truly understand what wars are and what they are about.
Thanks for hearing me out,
Peter Pan
(I won't grow up)
