What should we do?

Mat and I are supposed to go to Mexico to celebrate our tenth anniversary next week. Tickets are purchased, hotel is booked, grandparents are coming, and most of all...a vacation is desperately needed. I have two questions for you. Do you think we should go? And if not, where should we go instead?

Wow! That's a hard decision! If you decide to go, I would just invest in masks and maybe gloves for the plane, airport, and transportation environments. Oh, and a lot of hand sanitizer. If you are going to a resort then you might be more secluded and will be safe enough to not have to wear protective/preventative apparel. Let us know what you decided!

I think you should go. I bet the resorts are taking precautions to not scare away tourists and cleaning like crazy to make sure everyone feels safe. Just be smart and wash your hands and stuff like that. Have fun if you go!!

I would think real hard about it. Where is it specifically? Several of the NY group was in Cozemell I believe and contracted it. Likely alot more people in Mexico have the virus and are carriers than we really know. I think the plane ride down and back might be the worst part. Masks on planes will do nothing. The germs are circulated for the many hours of the flight. Rubber gloves and surgical masks for an anniversary trip. Sounds kind of interesting? Can't wait for the blog pictures.

The worst thing about flying for me is the recycled air. Second worst is that people sometimes touch you and they always touch their seats and armrests. If it were me, I'd do something in a more controlled setting until this thing shakes down. BTW, the TDPS has a car at each entrance to the TDH warehouse parking lot a few blocks from my house --- allegedly to prevent contamination and robbery of vaccines stored there.

However, if you just must fly, you can do as I suggested and pull your latex/latex-free gloves over your heads.

I am so sorry that this is even an issue and that it is affecting your much-needed vacation alone time.

Maybe it's a bunch of hype, but why take the risk?

And remember, as LeeAnna said when she was 7 and saw the woman cough into her hand and then hand me the change at the Grandy's drive-through-window, "Mama, don't take it!"

Hmmm. I hear that the masks don't really protect you and I don't get the gloves. I mean if you touch your face with them on it's still going to transfer, right?

If you can get out of your plans w/o loosing $ (I hear airlines are waiving fees to re-book?) then I'd postpone or go elsewhere. Otherwise, I might think about going anyway. It's very curious that it doesn't seem to be fatal for the Americans that have gotten it. Strange.

I agree that the plane would be the worst, but I'd also worry about eating out which you'd obviously be doing.

(I know that's not too helpful of an answer :)

My concern would be whether or not I'd be able to relax and enjoy myself while I was there. And then, are you going to want to kiss and hug your boys when you get off the plane? I'm sorry you have to make that choice. If you do go, play it like Kelly Ripa, and ask for extra towels to put down on the floor and then sanitize EVERYTHING before you even put your bags down.
